Qlab sound file format12/27/2023 ![]() When you’re done designing, run the whole show just by pressing the “GO” button. QLab is a program that allows the design of sound, video and lighting cues for shows. You might need to do the import of the files separate from adding info, but the concept should work.Īgain, this is a little labor intensive, but if you're frequently transitioning between ecosystems this might be worth the time investment.Participants will learn how to use a non-licensed, free version of QLab to its full potential and create their own sound design under the guidance of professional Theatre Technician, Meg Stephens. One of your excel columns would cue target, this is how you could link it to the imported files Set it to make cue type x with properties where it fills in the relevant data from the related excel cell. ![]() Third, write a script to to parse your excel file. Have one column be q types, another be numbers, q names, etc for all relevant data. Organize it by name or subfolders, but have it in the order you want it loaded in the show. If you set up your file structure right, it should be easy to import everything in such a way you can have an excel file do all the labeling for you.įirst, put all your media in a folder. QLab has great options for automation using applescript. It's a little programming intensive, so prolly not worth it for a one off. Late to the party, but here's an idea if this is a situation you frequently run into. I've worked with both in the field, and it's easy to see a winner. Mac is just better for show critical gear, unless you are a professional, and configure your instance, and I mean really configure every feature, it is simply not up to the task of being a show critical piece of gear in my book. Windows is great for compatibility, but spend a week or two with one and it's easy to see it's shortcomings. For the API reliance, I understand how that can look, but think about it, the more support and compatibility you add to a program, the more likely it is to have issues with dependancies, or fail for some other reason. I just don't feel that way about windows or linux. I can bring my OSX laptop and a charger with me, and KNOW that it will work, every time. No forced updates, no command line fuckery, no driver hell, or device management fuck ups. ![]() But honestly, it's just not, OSX is a great platform, it sucks that its so expensive to get to, but it really is just rock solid. I've heard all the arguements, that I'm just "doing linux wrong", or that windows is more stable than mac and it must be because of me. Let me tell you, nothing comes close to the reliability of OSX. I can understand why that could seem a little short sighted, but I've used all types of operating systems, tons of linux distros, pretty much every version of windows from 98 up (Edit: I mean literally all of them, enterprise, embedded, POS included), and OSX. Part of the reason they stated it will stay a mac only program is because they rely on the Core Audio api from OSX.
